Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number

Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number is a 10 digit- alphanumeric-number issued to persons who are required to deduct or collect tax on payments made by them under the Indian Income Tax Act, the number is required to be mentioned on TDS returns under Section 203A of Income Tax Act, 1961. The TAN number is needed to be obtained by all those persons who are responsible for deducting and collecting Taxes.

The 5th to 9th digit is numerical

For example, a TAN number should look like AAKC0504F.

TAN REGISTRATION

Step-1: ​Visit www.tdscpc.gov.in and click on Register as Tax Deductor or Go to https://www.tdscpc.gov.in/app/dedregs1.xhtml to register for your TAN Number.

Step-2: Fill the relevant details and Login Credentials and Click on Create Account.

Step-3: After clicking on to Create Account a confirmation screen will appear in order to validate the provided details and their correctness, in case any changes are required to the filled details on the confirmation screen, an edit option is available to make such changes.

Step-4: On confirming the details, the account will be created an activation link and codes will be sent to the applicant email id and mobile number.

DOCUMENT REQUIREMENT

For the purpose of TAN registration, no particular document or proof of identity is required. In order to obtain a TAN, Form 49B needs to be filled and submitted. The process for registration is stated below-

  1. You have to fill and submit the Form 49B online or send a completed Form 49b to any TIN Facilitation Center of NSDL. It is easy to apply online.
  2. If there are any details wrongly entered by you, rectify it and then resubmit it online.
  3. A confirmation screen will open up and it will require your confirmation.
  4. After confirming the relevant details in form 49B, An Acknowledgement Receipt will appear which consists of the name of the applicant, the status of the applicant,14 digit Acknowledgement number, contact details, payment details, and signature space.
  5. Nominal payment has been made for Form 49B, either through Demand  Draft or Cheque or Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking.
  6. Demand Draft  must be in favor of NSDL – TIN, 
  7. Demand Draft shall be payable at Mumbai. Must be sent to address o.f NSDL at NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited  5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep bungalow Chowk, Pune- 411016
  8. On successful payment by Credit/Debit Card/ Net Banking, an acknowledgment Receipt will be displayed. The applicant must save and print it. and send it to the NSDL facilitation center.
  9. Your acknowledgment and demand draft, if any, should reach NSDL within 15 days from the date of online application.
  10. Applicants, if they may want, may track the status of their TAN using the 14 – digit acknowledgment number on the site whenever it is necessary.

It is mandatory for all assesses to obtain TAN who are required to deduct TDS. If in case assesses fail to obtain TAN then they may attract a penalty of Rs. 10,000/-
